Carrying Our Loads

We all have a load to carry in life, nobody is exempt from that in this broken, fallen world, but how we carry it makes the difference. Tryllity and I have gone miles and miles using this backpack setup... a load to carry. A year or so ago, I loaned our backpack out for a weekend. When it came back the settings were (understandably) changed to fit the borrower’s shape instead of mine. We got it back and have used it countless times since. I have been in pain after each walk and have just sucked it up and carried on until last week when I remembered loaning it out and wondered if I just needed to make setting adjustments. All of the other time I was just thinking “this is what 46 feels like”.  I made a lot of adjustments today and halfway through our walk this afternoon I made some final tweaks and the last half mile was GLORIOUS and pain free.

This made me think about how we carry life’s burdens. Left un-tweaked, those burdens can cause us so much pain. If I don’t evenly distribute my load with prayer, scripture, personal time, spa tubs, the support of others... the walk can be unbearable. And then if you, like me tend to pick up loads that were designed to be carried by others, it can be crippling.

Laying it all down at the feet of Jesus is the way to lighten the load.

While we are stuck here on this side of Eternity, we will always carry a load (our flesh!) but I am going to listen more carefully and take the time to lay it all down.
